McDonald’s release another video trying to convince the general public that their food is OK to eat:
Let’s just start by saying that at no point in any of these videos do they take you to the FARM where these animals are raised. What are these animals fed? How are they treated? What kind of growth hormones are being given to the animals. And if they are being doped up, what other crap are they putting in them so they don’t die prematurely? I mentioned this same thing when McDonald’s put out the video on its McRibb sandwich.
What McDonald’s does with its food after the animal has been slaughtered is only telling half of the story.
But what this video does show is still not all that impressive.
White Boneless Chicken, Water, Food Starch-Modified, Salt, Seasoning (Autolyzed Yeast Extract, Salt, Wheat Starch, Natural Flavoring [Botanical Source], Safflower Oil, Dextrose, Citric Acid), Sodium Phosphates, Natural Flavor (Botanical Source). Battered and Breaded with: Water, Enriched Flour (Bleached Wheat Flour, Niacin, Reduced Iron, Thiamin Mononitrate, Riboflavin, Folic Acid), Yellow Corn Flour, Bleached Wheat Flour, Food Starch-Modified, Salt, Leavening (Baking Soda, Sodium Acid Pyrophosphate, Sodium Aluminum Phosphate, Monocalcium Phosphate, Calcium Lactate), Spices, Wheat Starch, Dextrose, Corn Starch.
That’s 13 ingredients in the chicken and 20 in the breading for a whopping total of 33 ingredients in one little nugget. I count sugar and corn based products (highly likely to contain GMOs) twice each in the ingredients. And, if you’re like me and try your darndest to avoid gluten, there is plenty of wheat, yeast, etc in these puppies.
Who can have a nugget without some dipping sauce?
We will just look at the most popular sauce, or so I guess, BBQ:
High fructose corn syrup, water, tomato paste, grape vinegar, distilled vinegar, salt, soy sauce (water, wheat, soybeans, salt), food starch-modified, spices, dextrose, soybean oil, natural smoke flavor (plant source), xanthan gum, caramel color, garlic powder, cellulose gum, dried chili peppers, malic acid, natural flavor (fruit and vegetable source), onion powder, sodium benzoate (preservative), succinic acid.
Begins with HFC syrup and lists “soy” or some variety three times. No thank you.
OK, so it is just meat (and 12 other ingredients) that comprises just the middle of the nugget, but once you add the breading and the sauce you add in another 47 ingredients with plenty of sugar, soy, crap and even xanthan and cellulose gum for good measure. Gross.
Oh, and I stumbled upon this gem on their website. Thankfully we don’t shop at the “some grocery” stores that McDonald’s mentions in their answer.
